CAN’T AFFORD COACHELLA WELL THERE IS ALWAYS HOODCHELLA…
February 4, 2016

When that moment of euphoria filled your body because you thought you were gifted tickets to Coachella and you start to DAB and Milly Rock simultaneously. But as you simmer down you analyze the ticket it reads HOODCHELLA (insert confused emoji face riiight here). No, that was not a misprint, do not return to sender it was a thoughtful gift. Although, you probably did not hear about this festival before today. If and only if you can’t afford tickets to Coachella no worries there is always Hoodchella but act fast as they are being sued by (drum roll please) the highest grossing festival we all know and want to cross off our bucketlist you guess it Goldenvoice’s Coachella Music Festival.

What is Hoodchella you ask? Hoodchella is a 16 hour live music festival in Los Angeles that will be a melting pot of music lover, food, drinks is any of this sounding quite familiar festival beyond the ella, ella, ella, eh, eh. The live performances line up is set to include: Witchcraft, TrillHill, a host of bands and DJ’s and the price tag is $25 and after paying you have to rsvp for the secret location. Being that the organizers of Coachella has filed a law suit against Hoodella in the U.S. district court on counts of trademark and service mark infrigement, unfair competition and other counts as they are not taking keen interest in the mimicking of their love child. Which brings me to the point that paperwork is very important in protecting your brand trademark and copyright everything you are involved in. Hoodchella announced the expanision from one day to three days this year a whole week ahead of Coachella.

Coachella is requesting that Hoodchella alters their name as they have reached out several times before taking it to court. Last year $680,000 was invested in the promotion of the highest grossing festival in the world ranking in more than $195 million on just ticket sales alone not including merch, food, drinks etc. There is a petition circulating as of yesterday to support the efforts of Hoodchella the goal is to receive 200 signatures, as they have captured 100. What are your thoughts do you think Coachella has taken it too far or do you think it is just in the business world to protect your brand by any means necessary?
